A small home doesn't have to feel small. Most of the cramped feeling comes from clutter and bad layout, not square metres — and both are fixable in a weekend.
Go vertical: shelves that run high draw the eye up and free the floor. Choose furniture that earns its place twice — a bed with drawers, an ottoman that opens, a table that folds. Keep surfaces clear; a clean worktop or table reads as space, even when storage behind it is full. And use light — sheer curtains, a mirror opposite a window, and warm lamps instead of one harsh ceiling light make a room feel open after dark.
The one habit that matters most
One in, one out. Every new thing that comes through the door means something leaves. It sounds strict, but it's the single habit that keeps a small space from slowly filling back up — and it forces you to actually like what you own.
Start with one surface and one shelf this weekend. The room will feel bigger by Sunday night.
